The domestication of the eggplant has allowed a variety to be developed that is much less bitter than the original varieties.
When it flowers, the eggplant becomes highly decorative, covered with beautiful purplish-blue flowers.
The fruit comes in various shapes, usually elongated, but ranging from the size of a nice oval egg to a big balloon with a pear shaped end. Its skin is smooth and shiny.
The flesh is cream-colored and studded with hundreds of little seeds.
Cultivation
Like most vegetables with a high water content, eggplants require frequent watering.
