The Great Erfoud Date Festival
In October, when the great southern region of Morocco is bathed in beautiful light, you can be sure that the date festival is approaching in Erfoud, where almost a million date palms grow.
Three days of festivities are devoted to this soft oblong bronze fruit that has ripened all summer in the sun into a sticky sweet treat.
The festival is an occasion for the region’s tribes and innkeepers to get together in a typical setting. Accompanied by music, among the Berber tents, you’ll be offered a glass of tea, the traditional gesture of welcome.
On the last day, you can take in the traditional dromedary competition in one of the world’s most beautiful deserts, the dunes of Merzouga. The champions face off on thousands of kilometers of dunes near the Tumbuktu Inn. Medfouna, a snack of bread topped with eggs, onions and spices is served at the end of the race. A treat for everyone!
