Presentation 1 - Cut in half

  1. Cut the pineapple in half lengthwise;
  2. using a pointed knife, remove the flesh by cutting around it a few centimeters in from the shell;
  3. remove the flesh, cut out the hard middle core, and slice;
  4. the hollowed-out shell can be used as a serving dish.

Presentation 2 - whole or in rings

  1. First cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple so that the fruit will sit flat on your work surface;
  2. using a sharp knife, cut thick strips from the sides, from top to bottom, to remove all the "eyes";
  3. serve as is, or sliced in rounds.

Presentation 3 - Malay-style, or for pineapple with large eyes

  1. Cut the pineapple as indicated in presentation 2, but peel it without being concerned about removing the eyes;
  2. using a knife, make diagonal cuts from top to bottom along the rows of eyes;
  3. make a similar cut on the other side of the rows of eyes in order to remove a long pointed strip; you'll be left with a very attractive pattern like a cog wheel.
