Some tips for decorating with winter squash
The Art of the Table > Use squash and pumpkins!
A clever champagne or drinks cooler
- Choose a large pumpkin, preferably one wider than it is high.
- Remove the top.
- Hollow out.
- Line the inside with aluminum foil.
- Fill with ice.
An impromptu soup tureen
- Choose a good sized pumpkin.
- Remove the top.
- Hollow out.
- Pour the soup into the pumpkin.
- Replace the lid and bring to the table.
You can also use small individual pumpkins.
A centerpiece
- Choose a medium pumpkin.
- Remove the top.
- Hollow out.
- Inside, place a vase that corresponds to the diameter of the lid, or is at least two-thirds the size.
- Fill the vase half full of water.
- Add flowers and colored leaves, centering on an autumn theme: yellows, reds, browns and rusts to match the mood of the season.
- Insert a skewer into the lid to hold it in place and stick it into the floral arrangement.
- End with a knotted strand of straw.
This also makes a lovely hostess gift for any occasion - Thanksgiving, Halloween or just lunch on a nice fall day.
