Without having the same international recognition, the Vins de Pays des Côtes du Tarn and the Comté Tolosan are two major players in the South-West wine region. Spread over 12 ‘départements’, the Vins de Pays du Comté Tolosan (235 000 hl) are one of 5 regional Vins de Pays in France. The main grapes grown are colombard, ugni blanc, gros manseng, sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, merlot, tannat, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. On a smaller scale, the Vins de Pays des Côtes du Tarn nonetheless produce an annual average of 155 000 hl. These wines stem from mauzac, len de l’el, sauvignon blanc, tannat, duras, gamay and syrah.
