Wines from the South-West - Fronton
All about French Wines > Wines of the South-West > Fronton
Located about 20 km north of Toulouse, the Fronton appellation is spread out over 2 400 hectares in the ‘départements’ of Haute-Garonne, Tarn and Garonne. The red wines and the rosés draw their originality from the local grape variety négrette, which has adapted itself particularly well to the gravelly and alluvial soils of the Garonne’s north bank. Négrette is sometimes blended with cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, syrah and gamay. In the past 10 years, many producers, in the interest of improving the quality of their wines, have been planting more densely and limiting yields.
