Chenin blanc

Wine grapes: Chenin blanc

Definition
Chenin Blanc or Pineau de la Loire is the grape variety that produces the great white wines of Anjou and Touraine. It has no relation to the Pinot family. The grape expresses itself best in the Loire Valley; elsewhere it has not adapted as successfully.

Chenin Blanc is used both for dry and sweet wines. It is subject to the "noble rot" and in this regard it is harvested as late as possible, sometimes even in November. Chenin Blanc wines such as Vouvray and Saumur age well.

Aromas
Apple, cinnamon, quince

Terroirs
Vouvray, Saumur, Anjou, Coteaux du Layon, etc
