Charentais Melon
All about melon > Charentais Melon
Charentais is a type of true cantaloupe from Europe (what Americans call cantaloupes are actually muskmelons.) Charentais melons are said to be the finest melon in taste, texture and fragrance. These globe shaped fruits have either a smooth or slightly netted gray-green waxy rind with dark green slightly furrowed sutures. They have deep orange flesh and a spicy, delicate aroma. Popular in Europe, Charentais’are especially prized in France for their rich, honey finish. It is often difficult to determine ripeness of the fruit through visual cues as the background color changes very slightly.
Harvesting : July to September in Europe
