Wine grapes: Sylvaner

Synonyms
Johannisberg and Rhin in the French-speaking Valais
Grüner Silvaner in German-speaking Switzerland

Origin
The Sylvaner grape, originally from the Danube basin, is fairly widespread in well-exposed growing regions where it ripens later than the Chasselas, producing generous and aromatic wines with good acidity.

It also produces late-harvest wines, through they are still quite rare.
