These crispy fried onion rings will enhance a simple salad topped with a mild creamy dressing.
You can soak the onions longer to simplify things at meal time.
Allow 1 1/2 onions per person. They're delicious and there are never enough!
Step by step:
Peel the onions and slice into thin rings on a mandolin.
Place in a bowl and sprinkle with milk - the onions don't have to "swim" in milk. Stir occasionally to moisten them well.
For each 3-4 onions, place 125 ml (1/2 cup) flour in a plastic bag. Add the onion rings and shake to coat each ring.
Drop the onion rings into the hot oil.
Fry the onion rings until golden and crisp. Keep a close eye on them because they'll turn from golden to dark brown in a few seconds!
Drain and place on paper towels.
Sprinkle with salt. Place on a salad and serve immediately.
