Chef's Note

Imagine the sun warming your skin, the scent of salt in the air, and the gentle rhythm of waves lapping against a coral reef. In the heart of French Polynesia, where the ocean is as much a pantry as a playground, locals have perfected a dish that captures the essence of island life: Poisson cru à la Tahitienne.

This vibrant, refreshing recipe is more than just food—it's a celebration of simplicity and flavor. Freshly caught fish is gently marinated in zesty lime juice, then bathed in silky coconut milk and tossed with crisp vegetables. The result? A dish that’s light, luscious, and irresistibly tropical.

Whether you're dreaming of a beachside escape or simply craving something fresh and exotic, this Tahitian classic brings the islands to your plate—with no cooking required.

Variations
- Step 1: Add freshly grated ginger to enhance the flavor.
- Step 5: Sprinkle grated coconut over the dish just before serving.

Tips & Tricks
(1) Lagoon and ocean fish—such as red or white tuna, bonito, perch, mahi mahi, parrotfish, or swordfish—are often eaten raw, marinated in lime juice and coconut milk. These are the key ingredients in the famous Tahitian-style raw fish recipe.

You can cut the fish into cubes or thin slices. If using thin slices, add the lime juice just before serving—just enough time to plate and set the table with sides.
