In olden times pulp from a crushed apple was applied to wounds in order to speed up healing. Mixing the apple pulp with fat, Italian women noticed that this "pommata" did wonders for their complexions. Though its meaning has changed over the centuries, the word "pomade" still reveals its apple-based origins.

It is recommended to eat apples regularly for their fibre content. Although they will not cure constipation, apples are recommended in preventative medicine to promote intestinal transit.

- dry the apple peel for a few hours in the open air;
- pulverize in a food processor to make a fine powder;
- infuse 1 tbsp. of powder in 1 cup of boiling water for 15 minutes; strain.
