Beef and Vegetable Soup - Caldo de carne

Ingredients for 4 servings
- 2 liters (8 cups) water
- 500 g (18 oz.) Beef with bones
- 60 ml (1/4 cup) dry Madeira
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1 carrot
- 1 small turnip
- A pinch of paprika
- 1 clove of garlic
  1. sauté the onion, tomato and beef in a pot;
  2. cover with water and simmer over low heat with the paprika and garlic until the meat comes off the bone;
  3. remove the meat and bone from the pot and let cool;
  4. dice the carrot and turnip; add to the soup; continue cooking until the vegetables are tender;
  5. remove the beef from the bones; shred and return to the pot;
  6. just before serving, add the Madeira.
