Beef stew Recipe

Ingredients
For 4 servings
- 1 lb (500 g) beef round steak, cut into cubes
- 2 tbsp (30 mL) all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp (30 mL) vegetable oil
- 2 medium onions, coarsely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 500 ml beef stock or 1 pot Knorr Homestyle Beef Stock * + 2 cups (500 mL) hot water
- 2 tsp (10 mL) Worcestershire sauce
- 4 cups (1 L) baby red skinned potatoes, halved
- 3 (3) carrots, cut into ¼ inch (6 mm) thick slices
Method
- Toss beef with flour, then set aside.
- Heat oil in a large saucepot over medium heat and brown beef. Remove beef from saucepot; set aside.
- Stir onions and garlic into same saucepot and cook, stirring frequently, for 4 minutes or until onions are tender.
- Stir in beef stock Beef, Worcestershire sauce and beef. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer covered, stirring occasionally, for 40 minutes or until beef is almost tender. Stir in potatoes and carrots, and simmer an additional 40 minutes or until beef and vegetables are tender.

*The little pot of Knorr stock is a gelled concentrate that really tastes like homemade stock. You can use real homemade stock or a traditional concentrate – use the amount required for the quantity of water.
