Chef's Note
In Quebec, bread pudding is usually served with maple syrup, though it's not essential.
Ingredients for 4 servings
- 750 ml (3 cups) cubed bread
- 750 ml (3 cups) hot milk
- 250 ml (1 cup) brown sugar
- 4 eggs
- A little vanilla extract
- A good spoonful of butter
  1. Heat the milk and brown sugar until the sugar is dissolved;
  2. off the heat, whisk the eggs into the milk; add the vanilla;
  3. place the bread into a baking dish; pour the milk mixture over top and soak the bread thoroughly;
  4. dot the top with butter; bake in a preheated 180° C (350° F) oven for 1 hour.
