Endives au Gratin Recipe

Ingredients
For 4 servings
- 12 Belgian Endives, medium-sized
- 12 Thin slices of cooked ham
- Béchamel sauce
- Cheese, to gratiné
- Salt and pepper
- A touch of nutmeg
Method
- Steam the endives instead of boiling them so they don't absorb too much water;
- meanwhile, make the béchamel sauce; season with salt, pepper and a touch of nutmeg;
- roll a slice of ham around each endive and place in a gratin dish;
- cover with béchamel and sprinkle with grated cheese;
- place into a preheated 180°C / 350°F oven for about 15 to 30 minutes depending if the endives and the sauce are warm or cold. Finish under the broiler for a few moments to gratiné. Serve hot
