Endives au Gratin

Ingredients
For 4 servings

- 12 Belgian Endives, medium-sized
- 12 Thin slices of cooked ham
- Béchamel sauce
- Cheese, to gratiné
- Salt and pepper
- A touch of nutmeg
Method
  1. Steam the endives instead of boiling them so they don't absorb too much water;
  2. meanwhile, make the béchamel sauce; season with salt, pepper and a touch of nutmeg;
  3. roll a slice of ham around each endive and place in a gratin dish;
  4. cover with béchamel and sprinkle with grated cheese;
  5. place into a preheated 180°C / 350°F oven for about 15 to 30 minutes depending if the endives and the sauce are warm or cold. Finish under the broiler for a few moments to gratiné. Serve hot
