Ingredients
- 250 g ground beef
- 1 - 2 sheets puff pastry
- Salt
- Finely chopped onion and garlic, to taste
- 1 Tbsp. curry powder
- 1 Tbsp. cumin
- 1 Tbsp. oil
Decoration
- 1 hard boiled egg
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- A small handful of black lentils or a few black olives
To serve
- Ketchup
Method
- In a bowl, combine the ground beef, onion, garlic and spices (curry, cumin and salt) and 1 or 2 Tbsp. oil to form a malleable mixture.
- Preheat the oven to 200° C/400° F.
- Meanwhile, roll the puff pastry out fairly thinly on a floured surface or piece of parchment paper. Cut into long thin strips to make the bandages.
- Take some seasoned beef and shape into a long cylinder, a bit like a slightly plump sausage.
- Wrap a strip of pastry all around the meat to create the mummy.
- To make the eyes, cut 2 small rounds of hard-cooked egg and stick them to the mummy with a little egg white; stick on a little piece of black olive or a lentil to form the pupil.
- Glaze each mummy with beaten egg and bake until the puff pastry is golden and the meat is cooked through, about 20 minutes.
