Mushroom Toasts Recipe

Chef's Note
This is a traditional hors d'oeuvre that is simple and easy to make. Serve a larger portion with a salad for a light meal.
You could also serve the creamed mushrooms in little patty shells as individual canapés.
Ingredients
Ingredients for 2 servings
- 2 slices of crusty bread
- Butter
- 450 g (1 lb.) white Mushrooms, sliced
- 250 ml (1 cup) heavy cream
- Salt, pepper and nutmeg
Method
- Butter the slices of bread; toast in the oven for a few moments; place into two ovenproof dishes;
- melt the butter in a skillet; add the mushrooms and brown for a few minutes; remove and place on the bread;
- pour the cream into the skillet and simmer until thickened;
- season with salt, pepper and nutmeg; pour over the mushrooms;
- place under the broiler for a few moments if desired, and serve.
