Chef's Note

This is a traditional hors d'oeuvre that is simple and easy to make. Serve a larger portion with a salad for a light meal.

You could also serve the creamed mushrooms in little patty shells as individual canapés.

Ingredients for 2 servings
- 2 slices of crusty bread
- Butter
- 450 g (1 lb.) white Mushrooms, sliced
- 250 ml (1 cup) heavy cream
- Salt, pepper and nutmeg
  1. Butter the slices of bread; toast in the oven for a few moments; place into two ovenproof dishes; 
  2. melt the butter in a skillet; add the mushrooms and brown for a few minutes; remove and place on the bread; 
  3. pour the cream into the skillet and simmer until thickened;
  4. season with salt, pepper and nutmeg; pour over the mushrooms; 
  5. place under the broiler for a few moments if desired, and serve.
