Old-Fashioned Pea Soup Recipe

Ingredients
Ingredients for 4 servings
- 750 ml (3 cups) Split Peas
- Cold water
- 1 to 3 slices of bacon, cut into small pieces
- 125 ml (1/2 cup) chopped onion
- 750 ml (3 cups) water
- 4 tsp. salt herbs
- 250 ml (1 cup) chopped carrot
- Salt, pepper and sugar to taste
Method
- Wash the peas and soak them in water for about 12 hours.
- Cook the bacon over low heat until the fat melts. Cook the onion in the bacon fat until softened; add the water.
- Add the peas, herbs and carrots. Season. Simmer for 3 hours.
