Rob Roy Recipe
Chef's Note
A Rob Roy is a cocktail similar to a Manhattan. The Rob Roy is made with Scotch whisky, while the Manhattan is made with other whiskey, properly rye whiskey, but commonly bourbon. The drink is named for the Scottish folk hero Robert Roy MacGregor.
Ingredients
For 1 cocktail
- a few drops of Angostura bitters (traditional, but optional)
- 2 parts Italian sweet vermouth
- 8 parts scotch whisky
Method
- Pour the ingredients into an ice-filled cocktail shaker.
- Swirl simply to chill, then strain into a cocktail glass.
Variations
Everything depends upon the vermouth:
- Dry Rob Roy, made with dry white vermouth
- Perfect Rob Roy, made with equal parts sweet and dry vermouth.
