Spiced Ring Doughnuts - Glytzista Recipe

Ingredients
INgredients for 4-6 servings
- 350 g (12 oz.) flour
- 120 ml (1/2 cup) water
- 1 tsp. salt
- 6 tbsp. Olive Oil
- 100 g (3 1/2 oz.) ground almonds
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- Olive oil for frying
For the syrup
- 500 g (18 oz.) sugar
- 250 ml (1 cup) water
- 1 tbsp. lemon juice
Method
- Make the syrup by combining the water, sugar and lemon juice;
- Cook over low heat for 3 minutes, remove from the heat and set aside.
- Combine the flour, 6 tbsp. olive oil, salt and water. Work the ingredients together to form a thick and workable dough.
- Roll the dough out into fairly thin strips, about 2.5 cm (1") wide and 10 cm (4") long. Seal the two ends of each strip together to form a ring.
- Fry the doughnuts in plenty of hot oil. Once they are golden brown, drain on paper towels.
- Dip the doughnuts into the syrup. Place on a serving platter and sprinkle with the ground almonds, cinnamon and cloves.
