Why not recycle your watermelon rind?
Why not recycle your watermelon rind?

All about watermelon > Why not recycle your watermelon rind?

Synonymous with cook-outs, picnics, vacations and days at the beach, watermelon is multcolored, sweet and refreshing. And while most people discard the rind of the juicy watermelon, don’t be so hasty – the watermelon rind has many benefits. Instead of throwing it on the compost pile, watermelon rind (the white part, not the tough green exterior) can be put to good use.

It has been used in cooking for a long time, usually in a sweet or savory condiment, particularly in Morocco and Iran, or pickled, as in China and Korea. It is delicious and nutritious.

Why discard what is good flavor-wise, health-wise and price-wise? Make the most of your melon. The rind contains a high dose of L-citruline – an amino acid – which helps dilate blood vessels and improve blood circulation. If you have a teen suffering from acne, they can simply swipe the white part of the rind over their face several times a day to help clear up blemishes.

Some recipes to let you enjoy your watermelon right down to the green!
