Brasica rapa var. rapifera
French: navet
Etymology
From the Latin "napus"
Description
There are numerous varieties, but the most common one is round with white, reddish or cork coloured flesh.
Turnips belong to the same family as cabbage, mustard and radish. This taproot is presently enjoying a new-found popularity, especially since farmers have begun growing dwarf varieties of various colors that do not even need to be peeled. Turnips are also easy to dye, so you can color them yourself with beet juice, parsley juice and so on.
