Apple Crumble Squares Recipe
Total time: 30 to 60 minutes
Preheat oven at 180°C. (350°F.) Preparation time: 5-10 minutes

For dessert, consider whipping up a batch of brownies. They're easy to make, kids love them and they freeze very well.

- 125 ml (1/2 cup) butter
- 250 ml (1 cup) white sugar
- 1 egg
- 250 ml (1 cup) all purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 250 ml (1 cup) Apple, peeled, cored and chopped
Crumble Topping
- 125 ml (1/2 cup) butter
- 125 ml (1/2 cup) brown sugar
- 125 ml (1/2 cup) flour or 1/4 cup each of flour and oatmeal
Method
- Beat together the melted butter and sugar. Stir in the egg.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda and cinnamon.
- Mix the dry ingredients into the butter mixture. Fold in the chopped apple.
- Pour the batter into a greased 8" (20 cm) square cake pan.
- For the topping, rub together the butter, brown sugar, flour and oatmeal (if using). Sprinkle evenly over the batter.
- Bake in a preheated 180° C (350° F) oven for about 40 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Cool and cut into squares.
