General Information
Origin: Middle East and north central Asia
Etymology: From the Latin pirum Rosaceae family.
The pear is the fruit of the pear tree, a pyramid-shaped tree which can reach 45’ in height and 9’ in circumference. It lives 200-300 years.
Medicinal properties
Aside from its high fiber content (which is reduced when the pear is peeled), pears are not particularly known for their medicinal properties. However a pear compote can be as effect as prunes for stimulating sluggish intestinal activity.
